I have a sony trinitron tv . when i turn it on, the light blinks 5 times but nothings on the screen ?

Sony STR DE695—No sound with the Cable Box?
Optical hookup from the receiver to the dvd produces sound but the optical hookup from the receiver to the cable box doesn't. This just occurred out of the blue! I switched optical cables but to no avail
I switched the optical cord to a different input but nothing happened. The speakers work but still no sound using the optical settings.
