The lens on my fuji camera is cracked, my mother bought a 3 year guarantee, but they wont fix it (read more)?

ok, The lens on my fuji camera is cracked, my mother bought a 3 year guarantee, and the store we bought it at told us what ever happends, no matter what, they will fix it, free of charge. when the lens broke we went to the store, we only had it for one year, and since it was a little over a year, we would have to send it to the company to get it fixed. we did, and we also copied the 3 year guarantee contract, and they told us we still have to pay around 60 dollars. they said they can fix the other things, but the lens need money. now they should give us out 20 dollars for the 3 year guarantee, and also they money to contact them and send the camera, just they they send it back, thats around 40 dollars!

1; it would be smarter to just fix it, not waste time.

2; the store is false advertising, because they said " no matter the damage, we will fix it, free of charge" why do you think we paid extra to get the 3 year guarantee?

so what do you think we should do, further?

Pursue it through your local BBB and then buy a new camera from someone else.

In the mean time you can shoot using the new, more advanced camera (hopefully one that uses the same memory cards you have now) and do your best to protect your camera from damage.

They are always glad to "puff up" their coverage guarantee so you will buy it, but if you read the fine print there are all sorts of loopholes for them to escape paying for anything. Had the same kind of thing myself with Fry's. Frustrating.

A "guarantee" is only as good as the guarantor's willingness and ability to honor it.

Usually, the extra-cost extended warranties only kick in when the manufacturer's warranty leaves off and covers only the replacement cost of the camera. These warranties often don't cover accident or abuse, which is usually the way that lenses get cracked. The coverage you get with these guarantees is usually not worth the money. This is assuming that the store would actually honor a legitimate claim. Many stores are reputable but some aren't. You need to check on a retailer's reputation before you do business.

Also, you can't go by verbal promises; you must read the fine print carefully. Even otherwise reputable stores sometimes have sales staff that are unfamiliar with what the warranty actually covers and give you false information or even who deliberately shade the truth a bit.

What to do? It's too late to undo the purchase now, but next time you buy portable electronics, recognize that it will probably have a fairly short service life and will probably be less expensive to replace rather than repair. In other words, take a pass on the extended warranty.
