OWNERS ONLY!!!am i doing something wrong with the nikon d40 sports mode?

i tryed getting shots of moving cars but they didnt come out all that good. what am i doing wrong and do i need to do to fiX this?

    What's wrong with the photos you're getting? Email some samples and I'll be glad to help.

    I've used sports mode for years with success, so if I can see what the problems are, I might have some answers.

    Chances are you have the camera set for too low of an ISO and/or have the camera at too low a shutterspeed to freeze the action.

    The rule-of-thumb is to use a shutterspeed at least as low as the focal length your are using. For example, with a 55-200mm lens, at 200mm, you should be shooting at 1/200 or faster. I find that 1/500 works best for sports and action.

    Try a higher ISO depending on what lens you have you could go 800 or more is the day isn't too bright.
