I need help picking a new digital camera!?

I'd love to find a compact digital camera that takes (near) SLR quality photos, takes videos, fits in a purse (doesn't have to be a small purse), and is all auto use. I don't need special lens or anything else. I also want a fast shutter speed–I'm trying to catch an active 2 yr old! Any one out there have or know of a camera doing all this I'd love to hear about yours!

Canon G9, its an advanced P&S camera. Should check its info.
Its a pocket camera, not too big, not realy small.
    With:
    - 6x optical zoom.
    - 3'' LCD.
    - lot of features, '' clor accent'' & '' color swap ''.
    - with good li-ion rechargeable battery.
    Good luck!

While not too compact you can go with the Nikon P80. It's basically a toned down version of an DSLR. It has among it's features an action mode which will snap around 5 - 10 pictures very rapidly.

If you want really compact go with a Canon 1100 or Sony W120. If you want something flashier, go with a Sony T200. That has a larger LCD on the back, is very thin, but has a touch screen. Sony also uses the Carl Zeiss lens. It's one of the best lenses out on the market.

I would shy away from the Kodaks, they don't have the quality you are looking for. Fujifilm and Casio are being catered towards the teenager crowd looking to make youtube videos or post pictures on myspace. Nikon cameras are hit or miss. Nikon S600 is a very good camera. Main feature is the fast start up time. That's basically the only Nikon I like out there atm besides their DSLR line.

I've worked selling cameras now for a while and those would be my recommendations to you.
